Do you get enough sleep? Here’s 5 tips to a great nights sleep.
For a long period of time in my life, I’ve had a hard time falling asleep. Do you know that feeling when you are wide awake, tumbling around in your bed thinking: “Do I really need to pee again?” Your mind just don´t want to shut up?? You worry about all kinds of stuff or stress about tomorrows to do list?
You know that feeling?
One day I just had enough, my mission was on, I wanted to learned how to sleep better, because I was sick and tired (of course) of not feeling rested, look like shit and just being in a bad mood all day, just because I again didn’t get enough sleep. Then I read somewhere that it’s easier to lose weight if you sleep well, so the game was on.
The first thing I did was going cold turkey on coffee, because coffee was a huge part of my life, it was my drug to stay awake. After my first week of no coffee was over, this was what I did:
The basic rules:
- If you can no caffeine, or at least no coffee after 12 p.m.
- Say goodbye to alcohol, sugar and dark chocolate, sorry, but this is a no go.
- No Facebook scrolling before bedtime!!
- Keep your bedroom dark (I’m in love with my sleep mask, especially because I am traveling and always sleep in a new place)
Here is what I did to fall a sleep 5 minutes after I put my head hit the pillow
Five simple tips to sleep like a baby.
Buy a journal.
We need to quiet that busy mind of yours. And the best way to do that is to write down everything you are thinking before going to bed or when lying in bed and trying to sleep. Write it all down in your journal as it pops into your head like special tasks, people to see or something somebody told you. That way you can safely tell you mind, that all is good because you wrote everything down so you can remember it tomorrow.
Go to sleep at the same time and wake up at the same time.
This is a very important one, deicide when you want to go to sleep and when you want to wake up, it can be different from person to person what’s suits you best. For me I wake up around 6:15, meditate for 10 minutes, and then I am ready for my day. I go to bed around 21:30 read a little and then I sleep before 22:00 latest at 22:30.
This has made the absolute biggest change for me, to keep the same sleeping pattern is a must. I chose those hours because they are the best times for the body and mind to get into a deep and healing sleep.
Yoga or meditation.
Sometimes if it has been a really busy day, my body is all stiff from sitting at the computer and my mind is spinning in all directions, I go to my girl Adriene for help, she made this lovely sequence of yoga for bedtime.
Or you can practice some meditation, I use the insight timer app to keep track of time.
I promise you, this together with some lavender oil on your pillow makes you sleep like a baby
Buy yourself an alarm clock.
Yes yes, one of those old-school ones, maybe you remember (I think they are coming back in style)
Get an alarm clock so you can keep your phone out of your bedroom, you know why, it is simply just not good for you to be scrolling around on Facebook and Instagram before bed time!
first of all because of the blue light that the LED screens give off. Blue light can slow or the production of melatonin, the hormone that signals our brain that it’s time for bed.
And secondly we don´t want to upset our minds with how wonderful everybody else’s life look like on social media, do we ??
So go old-school here and buy a alarm clock, also buy an old-school book or get one from the library and read something that makes your fall a sleep with a smile on your face.
Decide to sleep good
Oh yes this an awesome one to, you have to make a conscious decision, that you from now on is going to fall a sleep quickly and have a deep sleep every night. Sounds weird? Not at all, you can simply trick you brain into believing that you a “good sleeper”. So make yourself an affirmation, and repeat it as often as you can to yourself. Something like this:
When I go to sleep, I sleep immediately, my sleep is deep and healing, I sleep like a baby 🙂
I really believe that I am good sleeper now, and because of that I have no problems what so ever to fall a sleep anymore. So that is what my brains thinks and it lets me sleep right away.
Try it out for yourself. I hope it will help you to get the best sleep ever, but be patient as nothing happens over night (I just needed to put that in there), but honestly, things take time, but I believe that after to weeks, you will be sleeping like a princess (or prince)
Okay lovely people, this is all from me this time, now I would love to hear from you, what is your best sleeping tip?? And if you think those 5 tips can benefit somebody you care about, please share 🙂
